Fret Press Module - DIY Press Application
A potential pitfall in guitar workshops is repurposing a standard drill unit in order to press frets.
Issues can arise with equipment integrity, including table deflection, quill breakage but also the critical hazard of accidental spindle rotation - easily possible when electrical interlocks are completely absent.
Some of these are discussed in various luthier forums.

SOLUTION
FRET PRESS MODULE
The solution is a modular screw press mechanism, that can be adapted to simple setups or complex full guitar presses.
The Fret Press Module combines all the essential requirements of a larger fret press into a compact fretting unit.
The mechanism features a torque arm handle for ease of rotation and comfortable use.
The screw is fitted with a thrust collar that connects the fret caul and transfers the rotary torque into a substantial pressing force.
Because safety is paramount, and our engineering background treats risk analysis seriously, our fret cauls are designed out of compatibility with modified drill units and their associated risks.

SIMPLE WORKSHOP INSTALLATION
The press can be easily mounted onto the underside of a beam. The maximum thickness for a simple beam is 40mm. If using a thicker beam, rebating for the press unit would be required.
A suitable solution is to utilise hardwood or CLS timber as per illustration.
Drill a 9mm hole through the centre of the beam for the press screw clearance.

Place the module upside down, locating the press screw thread into the pre-drilled clearance hole, to centralise the mounting plate on the beam.
Drill two 4mm pilot holes into the support beam.

Tighten down the mounting plate with the supplied fasteners.

Wind the screw thread through the beam until it protrudes at the top.
Fit the locknut and handle.
Tighten with a 13mm A/F spanner.

FITTING & REMOVING CAULS
The caul is located onto the press screw using a spring retained thrust collar.
To remove the fret caul - pull the thrust collar downwards.
To fit the caul - push collar up until it engages on the end of the screw.
